
Gerard Seals 4-3 Beach Win Over Harvard

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Julie Gerard stepped up in a big moment as she clinched a 4-3 win for the Long Beach State women's tennis team over visiting Harvard. The victory is the sixth for the Beach (10-3) over opponents currently in the national rankings.
Gerard lifted the Beach to the win in the No. 4 singles match with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Harvard's Ellen Jang-Milsten. Gerard's win sealed a team win for the Beach in a tight match that went down to the wire.
The 31st-ranked Beach secured the doubles point over No. 40 Harvard with a pair of victories and Nos. 1 and 2. Ebba Unden and Haley Thompson took over the No. 1 spot in the doubles lineup and responded with an 8-4 win to start the day. Karolina Rozenberg and Laura Eales sealed the point with an 8-6 win at No. 2.
The lead increased for the Beach as Thompson secured a straight set win at No. 3 and Rozenberg followed with a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 5. The Crimson (6-5) began their comeback as Monica Lin took the No. 2 match 6-4, 6-2 and Amy He won 6-4, 6-3 at No. 6.
The final two matches went into a third and decisive set with the match on the line. Harvard's Nikki Kallenberg took the No. 1 match to shine the spotlight on the No. 4 match where Gerard pulled out the decisive victory.
Long Beach State jumps back into Big West action when it hosts CSUN next Saturday.
