
Beach Tennis Hands No. 23 Dartmouth Its First Loss

LONG BEACH, Calif. - A strong singles lineup led the No. 31 Long Beach State women's tennis team to a 5-2 comeback win over No. 23 Dartmouth on Thursday. After losing the doubles point, the Beach (9-3) won four straight-set singles matches to defeat previously unbeaten Dartmouth (11-1).
Julie Gerard started the comeback for the Beach as she defeated Jacqueline Crawford 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 4 match. Karolina Rozenberg gave the Beach the lead in the match soon after with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 5. Ebba Unden's 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 brought the Beach within a point of clinching the match an Maeva Razakasoa soon clinched it.
Razakasoa defeated 94th-ranked singles player Taylor Ng, 6-1, 6-1 to claim the upset win for the Beach and finish the straight set run. It is the fourth win over a nationally-ranked opponent for Razakasoa.
Hayley Thompson added to the win with a hard-fought win at No. 3 6-1, 5-7, 1-0 (10-3).
The two teams started the match by trading 8-4 decisions in the Nos. 1 and 2 doubles matches. Dartmouth was able to sneak out the No. 3 match with an 8-6 to claim the doubles point.
The Beach is now 3-1 against nationally-ranked opponents on the season and faces another this Saturday when No. 40 Harvard visits for a 11 a.m. match.
