THE MATCHUPS
· Long Beach State and Pepperdine play their first of two midweek matchups on Tuesday. Last year, the Dirtbags and Waves split a pair of games with the home team winning both times.
· The NC Dinos, a professional Korean team, comes into town for an exhibition game on Wednesday. The Dinos recent connection to Long Beach State comes through Adam Wilk, who played for the Dinos in 2013. Wilk played at the Beach from 2007-09.
HAMPSON BRINGS THEM HOME
· Sophomore Garrett Hampson played his first series as a sophomore hitting in the three hole in the lineup, which he only did twice as a freshman.
· He found a way to drive in four runs despite having just two hits in the series. He drew two free passes with the bases loaded (a walk and hit by pitch) and drove in a run on a fielder's choice for his first three RBI of the season before his first hit.
· Hampson also set a career-high with three RBI in the Dirtbags 7-2 Saturday win.
OPENING NIGHT WALK PARADE
· Long Beach State drew an astounding 11 walks on Opening Night against Michigan. The bats were mostly silent with only four hits but the Dirtbags still had eight men reach base in the 3-2 win.
· Eight of the nine starters drew at least one walk with Zack Domingues, Tristan Mercadel and Jonathan Serven each drawing two.
· The double digit walk total was the first for the Dirtbag offense since May 1, 2001 when UC Davis walked 10 Dirtbags in a game. The 11 walks also tie for the fifth-highest total in Dirtbag history.
PITCHERS HANG UP Ks
· Kyle Friedrichs set the tone on Friday and the rest of the Dirtbags pitching staff followed as Long Beach State struck out 37 batters over the first three games. That ranks second in the Big West behind CSUN, who played four games in its first weekend.
· Friedrichs, in his first start since his freshman year, more than doubled his career-high on Friday. He has mainly been used in a closing role throughout his career but fanned 10 Wolverines over a six-inning start on Friday.
· With a strikeout from Logan Lombana and three more from Ty Provencher the Dirtbags struck out 14 in their first night on the field.
· Tanner Brown went on to strike out eight in his six-inning start on Saturday, followed by three more from Ryan Cruz's three inning relief effort for 11 total.
· Trey Ferketic lasted 4.2 in his first start but fanned seven. The bullpen tallied up five more Ks for a 12-strikeout day in the loss.
FANS FILE IN FOR OPENING WEEKEND
· Over 1,500 fans filled Blair Field in all three games of Opening Weekend for the third-highest February series total in the Dirtbags history at Blair Field.
· The total attendance for the weekend was 5,568, which is the 13th highest series attendance in the Dirtbags Blair Field history and the third-most in the month of February.
DIRTBAG DEBUTS
· Ten new Dirtbags made their respective debuts in Long Beach State's series win over Michigan to open the 2015 season.
· In the field, Jared James, Tristan Mercadel and Joey Sanchez all took the field for the first time in a Dirtbags uniform.
· On the mound, seven different pitchers made their Dirtbag debuts. Trey Ferketic and Tanner Brown each earned starting nods while Ryan Cruz, Tyler Radcliffe, Vaughn Berberet, Darren McCaughan and Keola Paragas all came out of the bullpen.
