LONG BEACH - Long Beach State track stars Chris Enriquez (10,000m) and Chris Low (800m), who are both coming off strong showings at the USATF Outdoor Championships and NCAA Championships, will now take their talents to the international stage as they have been selected to compete in the NACAC U-23 Championships as members of Team USA. The meet will be held Aug. 8-10, in Kamloops, B.C., Canada.
Enriquez and Low were chosen based on their respective performances at the USATF Championships, which were contested June 26-29 in Sacramento. Enriquez was the top collegiate finisher and placed 13th overall in the 10K (29:57.43). He also garnered honorable mention All-America and All-Big West honors earlier this year. Enriquez ran a lifetime-best 29:12.46 at the conference championships in May.
Low took 16th overall and was third among collegiate athletes in the 800m at the U.S. Championships. He is also rounding out a remarkable year as he claimed the 2014 Big West 800m title and earned first-team All-America recognition with a seventh-place showing at the NCAA Championships. Low established a school-record 1:47.52 at the NCAA West Preliminary in May.
The North American, Central American and Caribbean Athletics Association (NACAC) U-23 Championships is an IAAF Area Championships that is held in the even years of each quadrennial. The U.S. team selections were made based on the two highest placing and age-eligible athletes (ages 20-22) at the 2014 USATF Championships.
