LBSU Track & Field Hosts Successful Beach Invitational

NORWALK, Calif. - The 49er track & field team had another successful meet as it hosted the 20th annual Beach Invitational Saturday at Cerritos College.
Willie Alexander tied for first in the long jump with a leap of 25-00. He has reached 25 feet in three meets this season and two in as many days as he established a personal-record 25-05.25 at the Mt. SAC Relays on Friday. Camren Woods added an eighth-place showing (22-11.75), and Cameron Pizzica registered a lifetime-best 21-10.
Jacob Fraser was third in the shot put at 56-07.25, and 11th in the discus (173-10). Jason Harrell also took seventh in the discus with a toss of 181-11, while Victor Martin had a personal-best 159-07 to place 18th overall.
Kody Robison was LBSU's top finisher in the javelin, coming in eighth with a personal-record 197-05. Adam Bianchessi contributed an 11th-place performance (195-00). On Friday afternoon, Robison also took fifth in the hammer (187-00).
Conner Rouse tied for third in the pole vault, clearing a season-best 16-06, and Niko Althaus tied for 11th at 15-06.25.
On the track, Davon Wilson-Angel recorded the second-fastest 110m hurdle time of the meet, winning the invitational section in 14.08 seconds. That is the 49ers' top mark this season and is .1 seconds off his lifetime best.
Koree Hines and Devin Hickey also had top-five showings in the 110H. Hines was third at 14.13 seconds, which ties him for seventh in program history. Hickey came in fifth at a season-best 14.28 seconds.
Cameron Glasgow was the runner-up in the 100m Invitational, crossing the finish line in 10.68 seconds.
Ryan Petrella registered a personal-record 50.98 in the 400-meter dash, while Sam Bautista did the same in the 1500m, clocking in at 4:02.02. Chris Low was ninth in the 1500m invitational section at 3:56.53.
Michael Perez-Rogers led 11 LBSU athletes in the men's 100m, recording a season-best 10.97 seconds, which was good for 15th overall. Jahmani Lockett was also the team's top performer in the 200m with a season-best 22.14.
Bryce Van Boxtel established a personal-record 54.14 for a top-20 showing in the 400m hurdles.
Dylan McCloskey, Glasgow, Perez-Rogers and Cody Smith produced a runner-up finish in the 4x100 with a time of 41.33 seconds. Hines, Hickey, A.J. Elam and Lockett also took fifth overall (41.58).
Zach Diaz won the 5000m in a lifetime-best 15:20.92.
On the women's side, Cathernine Martinez and Alex Kruthers each ran a personal record in the 800m. Martinez clocked in at 2:12.68, which ranks ninth in school history, while Kruthers, who has primarily focused on the 400m this year, finished in 2:17.9.
Amber Clark was first in her heat and fourth overall with a time of 14.17 in the 100m hurdles. Karlene Lorenz chipped in a top-20 showing in the 400m hurdles (62.92).
Both Clark and Jasmine Askew notched lifetime bests in the 100m. Clark came in 21st (12.42), while Askew was 23rd (12.48).
In the field events, Fatima Vergara kicked off the meet with an individual victory on Friday morning as she claimed top honors in the hammer with a toss of 187-05. Marina Shelton was also fourth (174-06), and Chaylene Bruggeman was 16th (165-05).
Melanie Samvalian took 11th in the shot put (45-07.25). Tiffany Forbito was 16th in the javelin (136-01), while Natasha Caldwell had a season-best toss of 126-00.
Linda Rueff tied for 15th in the discus (148-04) and Jerrilynn Stanwood came in 23rd with a season-best 143-00.
Aundrea Yancy tied for 11th in the high jump, clearing 5-05. Kayla Kamaka paced a trio of 49ers in the pole vault at 12-00. She was followed by Jodi Lambert and Amber Britt, who each recorded a height of 11-06.25. That was a season best for Lambert.
Next week, Long Beach State will head to Des Moines, Iowa, for the Drake Relays (April 24-26), and to La Jolla, Calif., for the Triton Invitational (April 25-26).
