FIRST TEE
For the third week in a row, the Long Beach State women's golf team will hit the road once again as they'll make the short drive to the San Fernando Valley to play at the Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine. The two-day, 54-hole tournament is set to take place at the par-72, 6,173-yard El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana. First and second rounds will begin with an 8 a.m. shotgun start on Monday (Mar. 3), followed by final round play starting at 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday (Mar. 4) with tee times from the first and 10th tees. LBSU will be paired with UNLV and individuals from UCLA and Pepperdine for the first two rounds and will start from Nos. 3-5.

BRUIN WAVE FIELD
LBSU will be among a 17-team field that features No. 11 Arizona, BYU, No. 26 California, Cal State Northridge, Colorado, New Mexico State, No. 12 Oklahoma State, Oregon State, No. 17 Pepperdine, No. 44 San Diego State, No. 2 UCLA, UNC Wilmington, No. 43 UNLV, No. 1 USC, No. 9 Washington and Washington State.
STARTING FIVE
Senior Rochelle Chan, junior Chaewon Park, sophomores Shawnee Martinez, Kassidy Teare and Janelle Sua will represent the 49ers at the Bruin Wave Invitational.
LAST YEAR IN TARZANA
LBSU finished in seventh place in last year's 15-team Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana. The 49ers posted a 54-hole score of 76-over-par 940 (309-317-314) finishing 10 shots over No. 31 Denver and No. 40 UNLV tied for 10th. Despite finishing nine shots behind sixth-place No. 21 Oklahoma State (+67), the 49ers were one-stroke better in the final round as the Cowgirls recorded a 315. Shawnee Martinez led the way for LBSU, tying for 23rd at 15-over 231 and Chaewon Park placed 32nd at 19-over. Kassidy Teare tied for 45th and Rochelle Chan tied for 52nd.
IN THE POLLS
LBSU is ranked at No. 72 in the latest Golfstat rankings and 76th in Golfweek.
LAST TIME OUT
Kassidy Teare tied a career-low 69 in the final round of the UC Irvine Invitational presented by Kia to finish in 10th and lead LBSU to fifth at Santa Ana Country Club. The 49ers recorded its lowest score of the tournament with a final round 290 to complete the two-day, 54-hole tournament at 30-over 894. The 49ers finished five shots ahead of fellow Big West Conference member No. 33-ranked UC Davis (+30) in sixth and 28 shots ahead of tournament host UC Irvine (+58) in eighth.
NINERS OPENS SPRING SEASON AT STANFORD
The 49ers started their spring season at the Peg Barnard Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course. LBSU completed the two-day, 36-hole tournament at 37-over-par 605, tying for 10th place with its Black & Blue Rivalry UC Irvine. For the fifth straight tournament, sophomore Shawnee Martinez was the top player for the 49ers as she tied for 21st with an 8-over 150.
LBSU HOSTS BLACK & BLUE RIVALRY MATCH
This year's Black & Blue Rivalry Match vs. UC Irvine heads up to Seal Beach as the 49ers will host the dual match against the Anteaters at Old Ranch Country Club. The 18-hole event will take place on Thursday, Mar. 13 at 1 p.m. LBSU won last year's inaugural Black & Blue Match at Strawberry Farms in Irvine by five shots over UCI. LBSU posted an 18-hole score of 20-over 304 as former 49er Simone Hoey led the field of 14 players with a 1-over 72, winning by three strokes over fellow teammate Kassidy Teare (+4).
49ERS HOSTS THE GOLD RUSH
LBSU will once again host The Gold Rush presented by Farmers Insurance at Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda, Calif. The two-day, 54-hole tournament will take place Apr. 7-8 and will feature an 11-team field (Boston College, Cal Poly, Cal State Fullerton, Cal State Northridge, Gonzaga, Idaho, Northern Arizona, San Francisco, UC Irvine, UC Riverside). This is the third edition of the Gold Rush as the 49ers are the defending team champions from last year's tournament.
BEACH CLOSES OUT FALL SEASON IN VEGAS
The 49ers closed out the 2013-14 fall season with an eighth-place finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown in Las Vegas. LBSU was among a 17-team field competing at the par-72, 6,230-yard Stallion Mountain Golf Club as the 54-hole tournament was shortened to 36-holes due to gusty winds cancelling second round play. The 49ers closed out the tournament with a 36-hole score of 16-over 592, finishing three strokes ahead of No. 34-ranked Denver (+19) tied for 10th and two-shots behind No. 37 Wisconsin (+14) in seventh.
MARTINEZ TOUGHS IT OUT
Despite suffering a mild ligament sprain during the practice round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational in Sammamish, Wash., sophomore Shawnee Martinez was back on the course less than 12 hours later for the 36-hole day to gut out one of her best performances as a 49er. The Modesto native posted an opening round 79 and came back in the second round with a one-shot improvement for a 78 to finish the first day tied for 47th. Martinez returned to the greens for the final round to record an 81 that was highlighted by a birdie and 10 pars, tying for 49th.
49ERS TAKES NINTH IN MINNESOTA
LBSU posted a ninth-place finish at the 12-team Minnesota Invitational at The Minikahda Club in Minneapolis, Minn. The 49ers posted a 54-hole tournament of 70-over-par 934 after shooting rounds of 311, 310 and 313. Sophomore Shawnee Martinez was the top player for LBSU, tying for 14th with a 14-over 230 after carding rounds of 77, 75 and 78.
MARTINEZ, TEARE HAVE STRONG PERFORMANCES IN COLORADO
Sophomores Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare recorded solid play in the season-opening Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic as both players finished in the top-10 in Fort Collins, Colo. Martinez placed ninth to post her second consecutive top-10 performance dating back to last year's Big West Championship where she tied for seventh. Teare tied for 10th at the Ptarmigan Country Club, collecting her third career top-10 finish.
CAL POLY HOSTS 2014 BIG WEST CHAMPIONSHIP
For the third straight year the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship returns to the central coast to the San Luis Obispo Country Club in San Luis Obispo hosted by Cal Poly. The three-day, 54-hole touranment will take place April 13-15, as eight teams will compete for the conference championship and automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament.
PARK HAS A BUSY SUMMER
Junior Chaewon Park had a pretty summer playing in two big tournaments, the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. and the 113th U.S. Women's Amateur Championship in Charleston, S.C. Park advanced to the round of 32 in the match play portion of the WAPL this past June, becoming the first 49er to do so since 2008. In August, the San Pedro native was among 156 players that advanced to the U.S. Amateur Championship at the Country Club of Charleston. Park missed the cut by four shots, finishing with a 12-over 154 after posting rounds of 76 and 78 to tie for 96th.
MARTINEZ ADVANCES TO WAPL CHAMPIONSHIP
Sophomore Shawnee Martinez joined fellow teammate Chaewon Park at the 37th U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship in Norman, Okla. this past June. Martinez was the medalist finisher at the WAPL sectional qualifying at the Reserve at Spanos Park Golf Course in Stockton, Calif., shooting a 74 to advance to the championship in Norman. The native from Modesto recorded a 17-over 161 during the two-day stroke play at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club to tie for 122nd place.
