SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - Sophomore Chaewon Park shot a 3-over par 76 in Monday's second round of the Big West Conference Women's Golf Championship to finish in third place and help keep Long Beach State in second at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
Battling windy conditions all day, LBSU posted a 312 for a 36-hole score of 25-over 609. UC Davis (+9) recorded the day's lowest score of 304 to increase its lead to 16 shots over the 49ers. LBSU holds a nine stroke lead over third place UC Irvine (+34).
Cal State Fullerton (+48) is fourth with a one-shot lead over tournament host Cal Poly (+49) in fifth, followed by UC Riverside (+52), Hawai'i (+54) and Cal State Northridge (+58).
Despite shooting a second round 76, Park remains just one-shot behind Andrea Wong of UC Davis in second and four strokes behind the Aggies' Demi Runas in first. Park accumulated a 36-hole score of 3-over 149. The Torrance native did not record a single birdie for the round as she collected three bogeys and 15 pars.
Freshmen Kassidy Teare and Shawnee Martinez are tied for 10th at 8-over 154. Teare posted an 82 after starting the day tied for second with an opening round 72. Martinez carded a 79 after being tied for sixth with a 79.
Junior Rochelle Chan turned in a 79 to tie for 14th at 10-over, while senior Simone Hoey improved by two strokes for a 78 to move up in the standings by two spots to tie for 19th.
Final round action concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 9 a.m. from the first tee and will be paired with UC Davis and UC Irvine for the second consecutive day.
