LAS VEGAS - Sophomores Shawnee Martinez and Kassidy Teare carded a 1-over-par 73 in the opening round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown to tie for 21st place, leading Long Beach State to 10th at Stallion Mountain Golf Club.

For most of the day, LBSU either led or shared the 17-team field with tournament host UNLV through the first 13 holes. The 49ers would stumble in the standings from first to 10th as LBSU ran into trouble with their last five holes of the round. The 49ers ended up posting an 18-hole score of 9-over 297 to hold a one-shot lead over No. 37-ranked Wisconsin (+10) in 11th and three strokes over No. 34 Denver (+12) tied for 13th.

The Rebels would hold onto first with an even-288, leading by two strokes over Minnesota and No. 48 San Diego State (+2) tied for second and three shots over No. 23 UCF (+3) in fourth. Texas Tech is fifth at 4-over, while Nebraska is sixth at 7-over and Nevada, UC Irvine and Missouri tied for seventh at 8-over.

Martinez posted two birdies and 14 pars, while making one bogey and one double-bogey for the round. Teare scored four birdies, nine pars and five bogeys en route to a 73.

Junior Chaewon Park finished just one-shot behind tied for 31st with a 74, while junior Ashley Greer is tied for 67th with a 77. Greer sat on top of the leaderboard for most of the round as she was 1-under through the first 13 holes, recording a bogey free front-nine. On her last five holes, Greer posted four consecutive bogeys and closed out the day with a double-bogey.

Senior Rochelle Chan is tied for 89th at 10-over.

Sophomore Janelle Sua, playing as an individual, tied for 52nd at 4-over 76.

Elin Arvidsson of Texas Tech leads the field of 95 players with a 2-under 70, holding a one-shot lead over seven players tied for second.

"The team is poised and ready to make a run in this tournament," head coach Joey Cerulle said. "Adversity is something this team is going to have to overcome, especially with windy conditions we're expecting for Monday's second round."

Second round action continues on Monday, with the 49ers teeing off at 8 a.m. with Wisconsin and Kansas State from the 10th tee.
