HALF MOON BAY, Calif. - Chaewon Park tied a career-low 73 in the opening round of the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate to finish with a 36-hole score of 6-over-par 150 at the Half Moon Bay Golf Links Ocean Course to tie for 39th place.
The freshman from Torrance was the top player for Long Beach State, recording three birdies, 11 pars and four bogeys on her first scorecard to tie for 27th. In the afternoon round, Park fell in the standings while recording just one birdie and making six bogeys for a 77.
LBSU completed the day in 14th at 29-over 605, after recording an opening round 306 and improving by seven shots in the second round for a 299.
Seniors Monica Villarreal and Noelle Zavaleta moved up in the standings after improving in the second round to tie for 53rd with an 8-over 152. Villarreal posted an opening round 79 to place 68th, while improving by six strokes for a 73. Zavaleta opened the tournament with an 80 to tie for 69th as she came back in the afternoon session with a 72.
Sophomore Rochelle Chan carded a 77 in both rounds to tie for 64th at 10-over, while junior Simone Hoey is in 71st at 14-over after posting rounds of 77 and 81.
Top-ranked UCLA leads the field of 15 teams by 14 strokes over No. 3 USC and 21 shots over San Jose State in third. Tournament co-host and No. 23 UC Davis (+15)placed eighth and No. 21 Oregon (+16) is ninth.
Erynne Lee of UCLA sits on top of the leaderboard of 75 players with a five stroke lead over two player tied for second.
Final round concludes on Tuesday with a shotgun start at 8 a.m., with LBSU paired with Fresno State and UC Irvine.
