49ers roll past UCSB 71-48

GOLETA, Calif. - Larry Andersonscored 19 points to lead four 49ers in double figures as Long Beach State cruised to a 71-48 win at UC Santa Barbara on Saturday night.
Anderson made 6-of-9 shots, while grabbing five rebounds and handing out three assists. He also held UCSB's Orlando Johnson to just 10 points on 4-of-15 shooting.
Casper Ware added 14 points and five assists, while holding UCSB's James Nunally to five points on 1-of-7 shooting. James Ennis scored 14 points, grabbed four boards and handed out three assists, while T.J. Robinsonfinished with his 47th career double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
Long Beach State (14-6, 7-0 Big West) made 58.7 percent (27-of-46) of its shots, while canning 9-of-20 threes. The 49ers held UCSB (9-7, 4-2 Big West) to 35.1 percent (20-of-57) shooting, including a 4-for-15 effort from 3-point range.
It was a game of runs early as LBSU jumped out 5-0 with a basket by Ennis and a three by Ware, but UCSB answered with a 7-0 run to take the lead on back-to-back baskets by freshman Alan Williams. Eugene Phelpstied it with a hoop and the game was tied 7-7 at the first television timeout.
The two teams traded baskets for the first nine minutes and 20 seconds with the teams going into the second media timeout tied at 13. Ware led five 49ers who scored with six points, both coming on threes. Williams scored eight of UCSB's first 11 points and Orlando Johnson picked up his second foul when Ware took a charge with 13:06 to play.
Phelps scored four of the 49ers next six points, while the Gauchos answered with six points to keep the game tied, 18-18, with 7:58 to go in the half.
The Gauchos took a three-point lead on a trey by Keegan Hornbuckle, but LBSU answered with eight straight points to build a 26-21 lead. Robinson started the run with a hoop, while Ennis added a bucket before Anderson scored to make it 24-21. Robinson finished it with a hoop to give the 49ers a five-point lead.
UCSB stopped the spurt with a hoop by Williams with 4:30 to play, but the 49ers finished the half with a 10-0 run to make it an 18-2 run while holding the Gauchos scoreless over the final 4:30.
Anderson got the second run going with a pair of free throws and then Ennis and Anderson hit back-to-back threes to make it a double-digit game, 34-23. Robinson completed the first-half rally with a basket to give the 49ers a 36-23 lead at the half.
The 49ers took the 13-point lead into the locker room with a balanced effort. Robinson (9 points/6 rebounds) led five LBSU players with at least six points. Ennis and Anderson added seven each, while Phelps and Ware (4 assists) both chipped in six points.
The 49ers made 56.5 percent (13-of-23) of their shots, including 4-of-10 from three while committing just three turnovers. UCSB connected on just 34.5 percent (10-of-29) from the floor with seven turnovers. The 49ers held Johnson, a two-time first-team All-Big West pick, to just two points on 1-of-4 shooting.
The 49ers didn't let up coming out of the locker room scoring the first five points and 15 of the first 22 to build a 51-30 lead with 14:54 to play.
Anderson had eight of the 49ers points with a pair of threes and a put back, while Ware had five and Robinson two. The 49ers pushed the run to 27-11 to start the half taking a 63-32 lead into the second media timeout. LBSU connected on 11-of-16 shots to start the half, including 5-of-8 from the 3-point line.
