Long Beach State saw four players honored by the Big West as the conference released the 2011 All-Big West Conference Team for baseball. Starting pitcher Andrew Gagnon and Second Baseman Matt Duffy each earned second-team honors.
Gagnon was named to the second-team for the second straight year, becoming the first back-to-back All-Conference honoree for Long Beach State since Andrew Liebel and Shane Peterson merited repeated selections in 2008. Gagnon led the Dirtbags starters with a 2.81 ERA, held opponents to a .225 batting average, and threw 99.1 innings in 15 starts as a junior.
He was joined on the second team by sophomore Matt Duffy. Duffy led Long Beach State with 31 RBI and played in all but one game for the Dirtbags in 2011. He was second on the team with 57 hits and had seven stolen bases on the season.
Two players earned honorable mention honors for Long Beach State. Senior Matt Hibbert was named as an outfielder after leading the Dirtbags with a .293 batting average. Hibbert also had seven stolen bases and hit eight doubles on the season, reaching base at a team-best .375 rate.
Junior Mike Marjama rounded out the Dirtbags selections in 2011. An honorable mention pick at catcher, Marjama led Long Beach State with 63 hits on the season, and was second on the team in hitting with a .290 batting average. He had eight stolen bases and threw out 13 of 30 base stealers on the year.
