
No. 47 Long Beach State defeats Oregon 5-2

Long Beach, Calif. - In Long Beach State's return to the Rhodes Tennis Center, it was the 49ers' depth that prevailed, as Long Beach State won the final three singles matches in a 5-2 win over the Ducks on Friday. The 49ers also swept the doubles point against Oregon.
The 49ers had a very good day in doubles, winning all three matches. Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar started off the day with an 8-4 win over Neubert/Stuckemann at No. 3, while Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse took the point with an 8-5 victory over du Toit/Metzger. Anais Dallara and Klaudia Malenovska also won at No. 1 singles, defeating Skowronski/Smatova 8-6.
In singles, it was the bottom of the lineup that clinched the match for the 49ers. While Klaudia Malenovska had an impressive win at No. 2, beating Patricia Skowronski 6-1, 6-2.
Manasse had a quick 6-2, 6-1 over Trudie du Toit at No. 4 singles, 6-2, 6-1, while Anna Jeczmionka also won in straight sets over Lana Buttner, 6-4, 6-3. Cantlay, forced to go a full three sets with the match in doubt, rounded out the day with a 6-1, 3-6, 6-2 win over Rabea Stuckemann. Deborah Armstrong fell 7-6 (2), 6-4 to Julia Metzger and Dallara lost at the top of the lineup to Pavlina Smatova in three sets 6-2, 1-6, 6-2.
Long Beach State returns to the Rhodes Tennis Center on Saturday as Long Beach State hosts No. 42 Cal Poly in an important conference match. The 49ers will also honor senior Deborah Armstrong in a ceremony prior to the match.
