IRVINE, Calif. - Long Beach State junior Noelle Zavaleta was named Golfer of the Month for April by the Big West Conference today. This was the last monthly award given out by the Big West for women's golf for the spring season. This is the first time Zavaleta has been named Big West Golfer of the Month.
Zavaleta (Lakewood, Calif./Long Beach Wilson HS) recorded her best tournament finish of her career, tying for second-place at the inaugural Pacific Coast Intercollegiate at Half Moon Bay, leading LBSU to tie for second with tournament co-host and No. 17-ranked UC Davis. Zavaleta posted rounds of 71-78-71 for a 4-under 220 to finish just two-strokes behind first-place.
The 49ers finished ahead of three teams ranked in the top-50, finishing two-strokes ahead of No. 40 Northwestern and No. 31 Colorado as both the Wildcats and Buffaloes tied for fifth. UNLV ranked at No. 42, finished 19 shots behind the 49ers as the Rebels placed 10th.
This was the second Big West Player of the Month award received by the 49ers as sophomore Simone Hoey was selected for the month of February.
The 49ers are off the next the few weeks as they prepare for the Big West Conference Championship, Apr. 17-19, at the Tijeras Creek Golf Club in Rancho Santa Margarita.
