DOVE CANYON, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Anteater Invitational in Dove Canyon, the Long Beach State women's golf team currently leads the field of 12 teams at 24-over-par 592. LBSU holds a two-stroke lead over second-place Portland State (+26) and 14 shots over tournament host UC Irvine and Nevada (+38).
Senior Reina Rogers turned in another outstanding performance finishing in second at 3-over 145. Rogers remains just two-strokes behind leader Lauren Taylor (+1) of Portland State after opening the tournament with a 74 (tied for ninth) and came back to improve by three shots with a second-round 71.
Junior Noelle Zavaleta is two-strokes behind at 5-over after shooting rounds of 72 and 75 to move up in the standings from eighth to tie for fourth. Zavaleta has a two-round score of 147.
Sophomore Simone Hoey is tied for seventh at 7-over after carding a 76 in the opening round to tie for 14th and came back with a second-round 73 for a 36-hole score of 149.
Junior Monica Villarreal tied for 13th at 10-over 152 (70-82) and freshman Rochelle Chan is tied for 40th at 18-over 160 (79-81).
Senior Lindsey McAtee, playing as an individual, is tied for 38th at 17-over 159 (80-79).
Final round action concludes on Tuesday at the Dove Canyon Country Club with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. PST. The 49ers are paired with Portland State and UC Irvine at holes 1-3. Live action can be followed on Golfstat.com.
