
Tennis falls at No. 37 Pepperdine 4-3

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State swept the doubles point on the road at No. 37 Pepperdine, but dropped four singles matches in a tough 4-3 defeat loss to the Waves. The 49ers were strong at the top of the lineup, taking the top two doubles and singles matches on the day.
The 49ers got off to a quick start, taking the first point of the match in doubles. Jaklin Alawi and Rachel Manasse earned the first win of the match, beating Bhargava/Granillo 8-4, while Anais Dallara and Klaudia Malenovska clinched the point with an 8-6 win over Issara/Zalameda. The 49ers dropped the third match, as Cantlay/Luzar lost to Colffer/Oates 8-6.
In singles, the 49ers got into an early hole, as Sarah Cantlay lost to Andrea Oates 6-1, 6-0, and Manasse fell to Khunpak Issara 6-0, 6-3. Long Beach State lost a third match, as Deborah Armstrong was beaten by Anamika Bhargava 6-3, 6-2.
The 49ers pulled back into contention as Malenovska defeated Ale Granillo 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles, and Dallara rallied to force a third set against Arianna Colffer. A 7-6, 6-3 loss by Alawi at No. 4 singles to Marie Zalameda clinched the match for Pepperdine however as the fourth point.
Dallara completed her comeback against Colffer in the concluding match, winning at No. 1 singles 3-6, 6-3, 7-5.
Long Beach State is back in action in two weeks when the team travels to the Chicago area for three matches.
