San Francisco, Calif. - Long Beach State's run of five straight wins was snapped on Sunday, as the Dirtbags fell 6-1 to California on a rainy day at AT&T Park. Kirk Singer was 2-for-4 with a double on Sunday.

Both teams threatened to score in the first inning, but both defenses escaped unscathed in the first inning. In the third inning, however, California broke open the tie with a pair of runs. The Bears opened the inning with a base hit, and a double by Vince Bruno opened the scoring for California. An RBI single by Chadd Krist gave the Bears a two run lead, scoring Bruno.

California then broke the game open in the fifth inning. Bruno started the inning with his second hit of the day. A hit batter put two runners on for the Bears, and back-to-back RBI singles put California on top by a 4-0 margin. A second hit batter loaded the bases with no outs, and an RBI groundout put one more run across before the Dirtbags turned two to end the inning.

After a one hour and fifteen minute rain delay, action resumed, but the momentum on the Dirtbag rally was ended, as was Jon Maciel's work in long relief. California added another run in the sixth inning, scoring after a walk and a hit batter by Ryan Donahue on a double down the line from Tony Renda.

Shortstop Kirk Singer led off the seventh inning with a double, and scored on a sacrifice fly from Brennan Metzger to account for the Dirtbags' run.

The Dirtbags play one more road game on Tuesday at Pepperdine, and then return to Blair Field over the weekend, hosting Oregon State for a three-game set. First pitch of the opener on Friday, March 18 is at 6:30 p.m.
