Beach tennis wins second match of the weekend at LMU

Long Beach, Calif. - No. 42 women's tennis closed out a second win over the weekend with a 6-1 victory on the road at LMU on Saturday. Anais Dallara and Deborah Armstrong keyed a 2-1 doubles point victory with an 8-1 win at No. 1, and both won in singles to help seal the win.
Long Beach State's day started with a doubles point victory, as Armstrong/Dallara made short work of Pironkova/Rohovni of LMU, winning 8-1. The Lions evened doubles with a win at No. 2 as Anderson/Jin beat Alawi/Jeczmionka 8-2, but Sarah Cantlay and Julie Luzar defeated Bisharay/Morgan 8-3 to win the point for the 49ers.
In singles, the 49ers won five of six matches to stretch the match total to 6-1. Jaklin Alawi dropped just three games in singles all weekend after stopping Elisaveta Pironkova 6-0, 6-1. Deborah Armstrong defeated Shauna Morgan 6-0, 6-2, and Rachel Manasse clinched the win at No. 6 with a 6-3, 6-0 win over Reka Rohovni.
Cantlay remained undefeated in 2011 with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Ashley Anderson, and Dallara outlasted April Bisharat for a 5-7, 6-4, 10-2 win at No. 1 singles. The lone loss in singles for Long Beach State came at No. 4, where Anna Jeczmionka won the first set over Miya Jin, but Jin rallied to defeat the sophomore 49er 2-6, 6-4, 10-1.
Long Beach State makes its home debut next week, hosting Hawaii in the first of three matches at the Rhodes Tennis Center next week. The 49ers host the Wahine at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 10.
