Long Beach State jumped out to a 4-1 lead on a Baughman kill. The 49ers stayed out front and went up, 8-4, forcing a Pacific timeout. The Tigers then scored back-to-back points to pull within two, but LBSU eventually went on an 8-4 run, capped by a Baughman and Ryan Meehan block, to pull ahead, 17-11.
After the Tigers cut the deficit to 19-16, Aguillard responded with three consecutive kills to propel Long Beach State to a 22-16 advantage. The 49ers cruised from there as a Crabb kill gave them the 25-18 victory.
The two teams went back-and-forth in the second stanza as neither team led by more than two. Pacific eventually went up, 23-21, late in the set following a pair of kills. After the 49ers called a timeout, Klipsch found Baughman on three consecutive plays, giving LBSU set point. Riley then put the ball away from the back row for the 25-23 win.
In the third set, Pacific (3-4, 0-3 MPSF) took an early 4-3 advantage, but Long Beach State responded with five unanswered points to go on top, 7-4. The Tigers eventually fought their way back and stayed close until the 49ers went on a 6-1 run, which ended with a Baughman kill, to hold a five-point cushion (18-13). LBSU went on to outscore Pacific, 6-2, down the stretch as a Meehan kill ended the set and match at 25-19.
