
49ers defeat Seattle to conclude regular season

Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State closed out the Mizuno Thanksgiving Classic with a third win on Saturday, beating Seattle in straight sets 25-11, 25-12, 25-22. Delainey Aigner-Swesey set a career high with 10 kills while tying for the team lead on the day as well as adding five total blocks.
Caitlin Ledoux als finished with 10 kills on the night for the 49ers, while Haleigh Hampton added nine to go with six blocks on the night. Lauren Minkel led the team defensively with 13 digs.
Long Beach state totally dominated the first set, starting a huge push at 9-5 with an Aigner-Swesey solo block. The 49ers would score the next seven points to take a 16-5 lead, and after opening a 21-8 lead with a powerful Ledoux kill, the 49ers closed out the set 25-11 with a kill from Aigner-Swesey, who finished with four kills on the set.
The 49ers continued to dominate the match in the second set, hitting over .400 again. The 49ers took an 8-3 lead after an ace from Ledoux, and eventually opened up a ten-point advantage at 15-5 with an Aigner-Swesey kill, one of four for the freshman in the set. LBSU closed out the set after two attack errors from the Redhawks at 25-12.
Seattle rallied out of the break for the Redhawks best stretch of the match, eventually taking a 9-6 lead over the 49ers after a kill from Cristin Richards. That cushion would hold for Seattle, and the Redhawks kept the pressure on and took a 16-11 lead after a 49er attack error. Long Beach State rallied with a block from Hampton and Aigner-Swesey followed by a pair of Hampton kills to pull within one at 16-15. The 49ers pulled even with Seattle with a solo block from Hampton at 18-18, and then regained the lead with a Janisa Johnson ace at 19-18. From there, the 49ers continued to push and took the final set 25-22 to close out the regular season with a win.
Next up for The Beach is a potential at-large berth for the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced during the official selection show, held on ESPNNEWS between Noon and 12:30 p.m. PT on Sunday.
