Long Beach State loses conference match with USC

Long Beach, Calif. - The No. 9 Long Beach State men's water polo team lost to No. 2 USC 10-4 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference match-up on Saturday at 49er Pool.
Alexsandr Petrovic led the 49ers (7-14, 0-7) with two goals while Nick Rascon and Barry Snyder added one goal each. Nikola Vavic led USC (22-2, 5-2) in scoring with three goals.
The Trojans jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Peter Kurzeka, but Nick Rascon answered back with 4:28 left in the first to tie the game at 1-1. USC rolled off five straight after that to go ahead 6-1.
With 14 seconds left in the half, Petrovic got The Beach back on the board with a goal that cut the lead to four, but USC's Tobias Preuss tossed another in for the Trojans before halftime to give Southern Cal a 7-2 lead at the break.
The only goal of third period came with 36 seconds left on a score by USC's Connor Virjee to give the Trojans an 8-2 lead. Petrovic and Snyder tossed in fourth quarter goals, but the Trojans answered back both times to finish the game with a 10-4 victory.
The 49ers close out the 2010 season at 12 p.m. on Saturday, November 20 when they host No. 6 Pacific in an MPSF conference game at 49er Pool.
