The Beach drops season finale to Tigers 15-10

Long Beach, Calif. - The No. 9 Long Beach State men's water polo team lost its season finale to Pacific 15-10 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation conference match-up at 49er Pool on Saturday. This was the third win for Pacific (16-9, 4-4) over the 49ers (7-15, 0-8) in 2010.
Senior Patrick van der Linde was honored before the game, then went out and tossed in his first hat trick as a 49er to close out his career with 27 goals scored in 20 games. Alexsandr Petrovic also found the back of the cage three times to move him up to second on the LBSU scoring list this season with 30 goals. Taylor Clute, Dan Matulis, Carter Taylor and Nick Rascon each chipped in with a goal as well. Goalie Matt Kubeck finished with 6 saves.
The Beach went on top first when Petrovic scored less than three minutes into the game. Pacific answered back with three straight goals to take a 3-1 lead at the end of one.
Clute got LBSU back to within one goal early in the second period, but the Tigers rattled off another three straight goals to go up 6-2. With 3:10 left before the half, Matulis scored a goal, then van der Linde scored two of his own in less than a minute to bring Long Beach State back to within two scores, but two late Pacific goals made it 8-5 heading into the break.
In the third, Petrovic followed a Pacific goal with two straight scores to put the game at 9-7, but the Tigers tossed in two goals with less than 40 seconds left on the clock to push their lead back to four.
Taylor, van der Linde and Rascon accounted for the fourth quarter scoring by The Beach. The Tigers scored four in the fourth to seal the 15-10 win. Pacific's Tom Koning led all scorers with five goals.
