Long Beach, Calif. - Setter Ashley Lee has been named the Big West Player of the Week, as announced by the conference office today. Lee led the 49ers to two wins last week while recording a rare quadruple-double.
Lee became the first player in the nation in 2010, as well as the first player in Long Beach State history to record a quadruple-double in a five set win over UC Riverside. She dished out 50 assists and made 13 digs to go with a season-high 10 kills and a career-high 10 block assists.
The 10 blocks were six more than her previous high, and her 10 kills was her first double-digit tally in that category since moving to the setter position as a junior. It was also her first triple-double since her freshman year, when she made 12 kills, 18 digs and 10 assists while playing on the right side.
In her first match of the week, Lee handed out 39 assists and made 13 digs to record a double-double in a three-set win over UC Irvine. She averaged 13 assists per set while leading the team to a .305 hitting percentage.
On the week, Lee averaged 11.12 assists, 3.25 digs, 1.50 kills and 1.25 blocks per set.
Lee is a two-time winner of the weekly award, taking the honor in 2009 following the Mizuno Thanksgiving classic. In four matches, Lee had four double-doubles and made 182 assists over four matches. She also joins outside hitter Caitlin Ledoux and middle blocker Haleigh Hampton as Long Beach State players to earn the award this season.
