FORT COLLINS, Colo. - The Long Beach State women's golf team made its 2009-10 season debut Monday at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic hosted by Colorado State. The 49ers were led by true freshman Simone Hoey as she finished the day tied for 16th place at the Ptarmigan Country Club. LBSU is currently tied with UTEP for 13th with a 26-over 602.

Idaho leads the field of 16 teams with an 11-under 568 as the Vandals hold a two-stroke lead over host Colorado State and four-strokes over third place Texas Tech.

Hoey, the younger sister of former 49er All-American Kay Hoey, carded an impressive three-under 69 with five birdies and two bogey's in the opening round as she finished tied for fourth. In the second round, Hoey recorded a three-over 75 as she fell to 17th.

Also, making her 49er debut today was sophomore transfer Noelle Zavaleta (Boise State), who came in second for LBSU as she sits in a six-way tie for 28th. Zavaleta began the day tied for 44th after shooting a four-over 76 in the opening round, with five bogey's and one birdie. In the second round, Zavaleta recorded three birdies and two bogey's as she fired a one-under 71.

Junior Lindsey McAtee finished the day tied for 63rd with a 10-over 154. McAtee shot a six-over 78 in the opening round and came back in the second with a 74.

Senior Brenda Chhuor is currently tied for 73rd (157) and junior Reina Rogers is tied for 79th (161).

Laura Anderson of Louisville sits on top of the leader board with a six-under 138 and holds a one-shot lead over Molly Black (Wyoming) and Kasey Claussen (Colorado State).

"LBSU kicks off the season with a 302 lead by freshman Simone Hoey's 69," said first-year head coach Joey Cerulle. "We got off to a good start but fluttered down the stretch. None of our putts were falling. We held it together and plan on making a move tomorrow morning for the final round."

Final round play concludes tomorrow at 7:30 a.m. PT, with live action on golfstat.com.
