Ledoux, Washington lead 49ers past Cal State Northridge

Long Beach, Calif. - Caitlin Ledoux hit .370 with 11 kills and Naomi Washingon led The Beach with 14 kills as Long Beach State defeated Cal State Northridge 25-12, 27-25, 28-26 in Long Beach Saturday night.
With the win, the 49ers improved to 12-5 overall and 5-2 in the Big West, while Cal State Northridge falls to 6-14, 2-5 in league play.
Ashley Lee finished with her eighth double-double of the season, making 32 assists and 10 digs while Lauren Minkel led the 49ers with 12 digs overall for the Beach. The 49ers outhit the Matadors .264 to .125 and had ten more digs with 48 total as a team.
The Matadors came out on fire scoring five straight points to start the match ahead 5-0, but set one would still belong to the 49ers. Holding Cal State Northridge to -.167 hitting in the set, Long Beach State scored nine straight points to take the lead, and would cruise in the opener winning 25-12, giving up just seven points after the opening flurry from CSUN.
With the score tied at 9-9, Long Beach State score three straight points to take the first significant lead in the second set, and eventually opened up a four-point edge at 17-13. Cal State Northridge rallied behind Brittany Williams to take a 20-19 lead, and the teams swapped leads for the rest of the way. Cal State Northridge took the lead and reached set point at 25-24 after a Tela Burnett block. Jocelyn Neely came through down the stretch for the 49ers, with two kills and a block with Brittney Herzog to give the 49ers a comeback set two win 27-25.
The 49ers scored four points out of the break to begin set four with the lead. The Matadors slowly climbed back even, eventually tying the set at 11-11. After a sideout to maintain the lead at 15-14, Long Beach State scored on a Neely kill to take a two-point lead. Another kill by Michelle Osunbor gave the 49ers a three-point lead, leading to a Cal State Northridge timeout. The Matadors would again tie the score at 22-22, and after a pair of 49er attack errors, grabbed a 24-23 lead. The 49ers would hold off three separate set points before taking a 27-26 lead, and finished off the match with a Herzog kill to win 28-26.
Long Beach State returns to the Walter Pyramid next weekend. First up, the 49ers will face many of their past greats in an Alumni Exhibition starting at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 23. Then, Long Beach State will resume Big West Conference play by hosting Cal State Fullerton at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 24.
