LONG BEACH-- Long Beach State (3-0-1) scored two late first half goals and cruised to a 3-0 win over Harvard (0-1-0) on Friday afternoon.
The win matched the best start in school history and was the team's third shutout in four matches.
Kristen Kiefer put the 49ers on the board with less than five minutes remaining, taking the ball at midfield and dribbling all the way to the goal and scoring from 10 yards out to give LBSU a 1-0 lead at 41:07. Hayley Bolt then put the 49ers up 2-0, as she kicked a pass from Dana Farquhar and scored with 64 seconds left in the half to double the deficit.
LBSU finished off the scoring in 54th minute when Lindsay Bullock took a pass from Nicole Hubbard from the left side and scored at 53:37 to make it 3-0.
Harvard had a chance to go up in the 18th minute as Liz Ramos blocked a shot by Katherin Sheeleigh, which deflected just outside the box to Christina Hagner, whose shot was caught by Ramos to keep the contest scoreless. Ramos ended with six saves.
The 49ers are back in action when they host UNLV on Sunday at noon.
