
49ers Cruise Past UCR in Opening Round

INDIAN WELLS--No. 39-ranked Long Beach State (17-6) cruised past eighth-seeded UC Riverside (8-11) in the opening round of the Big West Tournament, 4-0, in the first of three days of competition for the 49ers as they look to reach their sixth NCAA Tournament in seven years.
The No. 2 doubles team of Stephanie Jeanes and Jessica Weeks won 8-3, while the No. 3 team of Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton won 8-2 to clinch the doubles point, before No. 1 player and No. 91-ranked Hannah Grady, No. 3 player Stephanie Jeanes and No. 6 player and senior Emmanuelle Tabatruong all won in straight sets.
It took just two hours and 20 minutes to win the four points, as the final doubles match and three of the six singles were stopped once the winning team won the doubles point and won the necessary four points.
The 49ers will play UC Santa Barbara on Saturday in the Semifinals at 9 a.m.
