FRESNO, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, Long Beach State's Issei Suenaga leads the field as he shot a 10-under 134. Suenaga recorded a 67 for both rounds and is playing as an individual. As a team, the 49ers are currently in 17th place. The 49ers shot a 13-over par 589 as they recorded a 295 and 294 at Ft. Washington Country Club in Fresno. San Diego State leads the field as the Aztecs shot a 24-under 552 for the day. Texas is six shots back of SDSU.
Individually, Michael Drake is the top 49er for the team as he's tied for 37th with a 145 (74-71). JJ Katnik (71-77) and Aaron Slonim (74-74) are both tied for 65th with a 148, followed by Ricky Montanez (76-73) tied for 73rd and Karl Katnik (78-76) tied for 91st.
"Issei wasn't even feeling well, so we really didn't know whether he was going to play or not," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "As for the team, we got off to a very good start but after that we couldn't really get anything going. So, hopefully, we'll play better in the final round and pick-up a few spots."
Final round action continues on Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
