BURBANK, Calif. - The Southern California Sports Broadcasters association held their annual awards presentation this week, and Long Beach State sprinter Jasmine Winfield was presented as the winner of the 2007 Tom Harmon Memorial Scholarship Award. The award is given to a collegian not pursuing a career in professional sports to help assist them in their advanced graduate studies.
Winfield is a very visible member of Long Beach State's student-athlete community, both with the LBSU Student-Athlete Advisory Council and on the track. A sprinter competing in the 200m and 400m as well as both relays, Winfield was the captain of the women's sprint and hurdle team this past season. She has been named All-Big West Five times and has earned Academic All-Big West Honors three times.
As a member of Long Beach State's relay teams, she is a school record-holder in both the outdoor 4x100m and 4x400m relays. Individually, Winfield also currently holds the fourth-best mark in school history in both the 200m and 400m dashes.
A 2007 graduate in Political Science, Winfield enters her senior year of eligibility while pursuing a Master's Degree in Sports Administration.
