
Hoey Moves Into First Place After Day Two In Washington

Sammamish, Wash. - Long Beach State All-American senior Kay Hoey shot a one-under 71 in the second round of the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational to finish all alone in first place with a one stroke lead over second place Mari Chun of Stanford. Hoey recorded five birdies on Tuesday, which two of them came in the first two holes and one on hole 18. On Monday, Hoey shot a two-over 74 as she finished in a five-way tie for fifth.
In the team standings, the 49ers improved by 13 shots to move up by two spots to finish tied for fifth place with San Francisco at the Sahalee Country Club. LBSU fired a 303, while the Dons came in with a 298 as both teams are 43-over 619. The Stanford Cardinal moved into first place with a two-round total of 30-over 606, a two shot lead over second place Oregon (608).
Freshman Lee Lopez jumped from 17th place to tie for fifth place as she shot a one-over 73 in the second round to remain just five shots behind first place. Lopez improved by four shots from the day before as she carded a five-over 77, with four birdies and five boggies on Tuesday.
Sophomore Lindsey McAtee shot an identical score from the first round of 11-over 83 as she fell three spots in the standings to tie for 54th.
Fellow classman Reina Rogers made a significant improvement in her game as she recorded a two-over 76, a 15 shot difference from Monday's opening round. Rogers recorded her highest score as 49er as she shot a 19-over 91.
Junior Brenda Chhuor finished the day with a 13-over 85 to tie for 57th.
Final round action concludes on Wednesday morning at 8 a.m
