Figueroa Named Preseason All-Big West

Irvine, Calif. - Senior guard Karina Figueroa was selected for the 2008-09 Preseason All-Big West Team as picked by the conference coaches today at Big West Basketball Media Day.
Featured on BigWest.tv, the Big West Basketball Media Day featured interviews with head coach Mary Hegarty as well as Figueroa, who was there representing her teammates. A two-time All-Big West selection, Figueroa has joined five other players on the Preseason All-Big West team.
Figueroa led the 49ers in scoring the last two seasons, averaging 13.5 points per game over her career as well as dishing out 230 assists and ranking among the program's best in both free throw and three-point shooting over a career.
In other media day news, the 49ers were slated to finish fifth in the conference by the Preseason Media poll, trailing UC Riverside, UC Davis, UC Riverside, and Cal State Fullerton. In the coaches poll, the 49ers were picked seventh.
