Coming back strongly in the fourth period, Long Beach State recovered from the third period with five straight goals to pull back to within two with 1:52 remaining after Blythen's final goal. UC Irvine would score once more,
The road matchup between the teams was outside the MPSF, so it will not count in the conference standings. The 49ers return to action on the road on Saturday, playing Stanford on the road.
