Kwong Named AOW; 49ers Headed to Stanford

Kwong Named Field Athlete of the Week LONG BEACH STATE BEST MARKS: FULL STATISTICS LONG BEACH, CA--Senior Ezra Kwong (Novato) was named the Big West's Field Athlete of the Week following an NCAA Regional mark of 56'5.50" in the shot put and a Big West qualifying mark of 159'9" in the discus. Now a two-time regional qualifier in the shot, Kwong, who redshirted last year, holds the ninth-best mark (56'7.50") in school-history, set earlier this season Kwong is one of six regional qualifiers this season for the 49er men, who head to the Stanford Invite this Friday and Saturday. Four additional regional marks have been posted on the women's side, Jill Reynolds in the pole vault, Kim Heinz and Alex Shaw in the javelin and Jennifer Onyeagbako in the discus. Amongst Stanford competitors, Brent Gray has the third-fastest time heading into the Stanford Invite in the100-meter and the sixth-fastest 200-meter time. Heinz has the sixth-best javelin at the meet. Over 4000 athletes are expected to compete at the two-day meet. Gray currently has the fastest times in the Big West 100 and 200 meters, Alex Freitas and Mario Cobian are 1-2 in the 800-meter, and Robert Jennings has the top discus mark and second-best hammer. Nicole Blalock, who had the third-fastest time in school-history last weekend, has the top 1500-meter mark in the conference, Reynolds is tops in the pole vault, and Onyeagbako has the top discus mark. Heinz and Shaw are also 1-2 in the javelin. The 33rd annual running of the Palo Alto meet will begin on Friday at 8:45 a.m. with the women's 5000-meter run, while Saturday opens with the high school girls 400-meter dash. Last year's meet produced 256 NCAA Division I automatic or regional qualifiers.
