Grabow Runs Seventh Fastest Time in the World SEATTLE, WA-- Long Beach State senior runner Jimmy Grabow ran the seventh fastest time in the world this year at the Husky Invitational, setting the school-record in the indoor 5000-meter with a time of 13:44.04 as part of five top-five indoor times for the 49ers. Grabow finished fifth to the world's fastest runner, NCAA 3000-meter champion, Chris Sololinsky. The time was also fifth-fastest in the U.S. and is an automatic qualifier for this year's NCAA Championships, Grabow's first national championship event. Half of the 21 runners were former All-Americans. "It was off the charts," said Distance Coach Matt Roe, who now has coach the program's first distance runner to make the NCAA Championships. "I'm not surprised at all by Jimmy's performance. I thought he could get under the national standard of 13:48. He got in the right race at the right time, running against some of the best, and beat most of them. It was a great effort overall for our team and I think the best performance we've had running indoors as a distance group ever." Also in the Emerald City, Wolhan Ovalle (14:26.80) ran the second and Dylan Jaedtke (14:50.60) ran the third fastest indoor 5000-meter times at Long Beach State, while Nicole Blalock (4:56.70) and Missy Barclay (5:02.02) had the third and fifth fastest indoor miles. Jenessa Botello ran the fourth-fastest 400-meter time with a mark of 2:17.35. In Northern Arizona, the 49ers took home six wins and 21 top-three finishes at the Northern Arizona Invite. Jessica Branker won the 60-mter and 200-meter dashes, Tisha Uwadiale won the long jump and was second in the triple jump, while Ezra Kwong (shot), Rob Jennings (weight) and Alex Black (high jump) also took home first place medals. |
