BOX SCORE

IRVINE— UC Irvine's (10-5-2, 4-1-1 Big West) Kim Conlan scored from 35 yards out from the far left wing, taking advantage of backup goalkeeper Breanna Truelove to defeat Long Beach State (11-6-0, 4-2-0 Big West) 1-0 on Tuesday evening.

CS Fullerton (15 points) and Cal Poly (15) remain in first place, followed by UC Irvine (13) and LBSU (12). Everyone has two matches remaining except for the Titans, all coming this weekend.

The winning score was set up when Truelove entered the game in the eighth minute due to injury, and then chased after a UCI pass and left the goal wide open in the 36th minute. Conlan settled it and scored at 35:22 to give the Anteaters a 1-0 lead.

The 49ers outshot UCI 3-to-1 in the first half and 8-to-6 in a very physical match that saw the Anteaters get called for 15 fouls, to just three for the 49ers.

Hayley Bolt's header with 24 seconds left would have tied it, but was saved off the fingertips of UCI goalkeeper Danielle de Seriere.

LBSU had not played in nine days due to the Southern California fires.

Truelove kept the match close late, making a save in the 80th minute off a shot from Kim Horn after the 49ers attacked the UCI end for a good 10 minutes prior and for a majority of the final 25 minutes.

Kristen Kiefer had two chances to tie it with 30 minutes left, as the UCI defense made a point blank save on a header in the 63rd minute, before Kiefer's header missed wide two minutes later.

Starting goalkeeper Liz Ramos left the match seven minutes and 23 seconds in after getting cleated by a UCI player in front of the net (left leg). Ramos did not return, as Truelove, who had not played since September 23, played the rest of the contest.

Defender Grace Shevlin, who had been out since the opening conference weekend, was cleared for the first time prior to the start of the contest (ankle) and played the second half.

The 49ers busy week continues with Cal Poly at home on Friday at 2 p.m. and UC Santa Barbara on Sunday at noon to close out the regular season. Each win is worth three points in the standings.
