49ers Defeat Pacific in Consolation Championship
GOLETA, CA – The Long Beach State 49ers (2-1, 0-0 MPSF) cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Pacific Tigers (1-2, 0-0 MPSF) in the consolation championship of the UCSB/E-Bar Tournament on Saturday afternoon. Game scores were 30-26, 30-28, 30-25. Paul Lotman led the 49ers with 22 kills for an impressive .515 hitting percentage. Dean Bittner finished with seven blocks and 10 kills, hitting .421. Gavin Christensen chipped in with eight kills and Norm Hutton added seven. Conor Eaton directed the 49ers to a .337 hitting percentage with 46 assists. Matt Cornell led the Tigers with 15 kills in the losing effort. Garrett Morales had 42 assists as Pacific hit .229 for the match. LBSU got off to a good start as they had 16 kills on 27 attempts for a .370 hitting percentage in the first set. They never let up as they hit an impressive .481 in game three while they held the Tigers to a .133 percentage for the set. The 49ers also outblocked the Tigers in the match 15.0-8.0. The 49ers return to action on Friday, January 12 at 7:00 pm as they begin MPSF play against the UC San Diego Tritons at The Walter Pyramid. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
