49ers Pick Up First Big West Victory
LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State (4-13, 1-2 Big West) picked up its first conference victory of the season, following a 70-52 win over visiting Pacific (7-10, 1-3 Big West) to snap a mini two-game losing streak. Karina Figueroa tied her career-high with 23 points, while Courtney Jacob added her first career double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds off the bench Pacific shot 29 percent for the contest, missing their season-low in points by two. Jerise Freeman fouled out for the Tigers with 12 points. Brett Timmons tallied a career-high 11 points, playing in a season-best 26 minutes off the bench as the 49ers shot 39 percent in the contest. LBSU scored a season-high 70 points. Kaiti O'Brien's bucket at 12:09 made it 45-26 and iced the game for the 49ers, as The Beach beat UOP for the fifth-straight time in the series. The 49ers took an impressive 28-18 lead at the half, holding UOP to just a 21 percent shooting percentage. LBSU shot 35 percent as Figueroa had 11 first half points. A Jacob three-pointer at 10:48 gave the 49ers an early 16-10 lead, before two Brett Timmons free throws extended it further to 21-10 at the eight-minute mark. A Figueroa three-point at 5:28 extended it further to 24-10. The 49ers remain home on Saturday when they host CS Northridge at 5 p.m. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
