49ers Dominate Utah State Behind Hurtado and Bolt SAN FRANCISCO, CA-- No. 24-ranked Long Beach State (4-1-0) dominated former Big West foe, Utah State (2-3-1), outshooting the Aggies 17-to-4 and easily defeating the Aggies 2-0 behind goals from Yeraldy Hurtado and Hayley Bolt on the first day of the City by the Bay Classic. The 49ers did not allow a shot in the second half as they posted their fourth shutout of the season. Hurtado found the net for the first time this season in the 40th minute to give the 49ers a 1-0 lead. Former prep teammate Sara Baca set up the play, passing it from the right side to a waiting, Hurtado, at 39:38, who scored from 10 yards out. LBSU outshot the Aggies 10-to-4 in the first half. The 49ers added to their lead in 67th minute as Kim Silos' direct kick went cross-field to Bolt in front of the net, who headed it in to give LBSU a 2-0 advantage. Bolt nearly made it 2-0 in the 58th minute, but goalkeeper Ali Griffin made one of her five saves with a catch of a Bolt's bullet. Kristin Childers, in her first start of the season, had four chances in the first half to give LBSU the lead. The former Junior College All-American hit a shot off the post in the 19th minute and then having just the goalkeeper to beat in the 27th minute, shot it high. Two minutes later, Griffin saved a shot and then the USU defensed blocked another, leading to a corner kick. The 49ers remain in the San Francisco Bay Area for a match on Sunday as part of the City by the Bay Classic, playing the host Dons (2-3-0) on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. The Hilltoppers defeated CS Northridge 4-0 in the earlier match on Friday. |
