BOX SCORE

WESTWOOD, CA-- It took 82 minutes in their contest, but No. 5-ranked UCLA (3-1-0) became the first team to score on Long Beach State this season, slipping through at 82:15 and scoring the eventual game-winner and defeating No. 24-ranked Long Beach State (3-1-0) 1-0 on a warm Sunday afternoon.

Liz Ramos made seven saves in net for the 49ers, as Kristina Larsen was the lone blemish, breaking away from three 49er defenders and scoring to give the previous, top-ranked Bruins a 1-0 lead.

The 49er defense, anchored by senior Natalie Messina and sophomore Julie Megorden stopped attempt after attempt by the Bruins, who had those eight shots on goal, but would routinely fire away from 30 yards or further during the contest.

The 49ers made an attempt in the second half to take a lead, but Hayley Bolt's header off a corner kick in the 50th minute was off and Kim Silos bullet was saved by Bruin goalkeeper Ashley Thompson. LBSU also had opportunities in the 56th and 65th minutes, which were both a pass short of high-percentage shots.

The 49ers kept the Bruins off the board and settled down after a charge by the Bruins. UCLA took three of its corners over the first eight minutes and had four shot over the first 10. Despite countering seven corner kicks, the 49er goalkeeper Liz Ramos stopped four shots in the first half.

Lauren Wilmoth tried to break the scoreless tie in the 24th minute, but Ramos stopped it, while in the 42nd minute a shot by Molly Kruger was knocked out.

The 49ers continue their virtual, month-long road trip, when they travel to the University of San Francisco's City by the Bay Classic next weekend.
