Bolt and Strohl Combine for 2-0 Win

Twin Towers Tally 2-0 Big West Win Over Pacific LONG BEACH, CA-- Sarah Strohl and Hayley Bolt both converted on corner kicks in the first half to lead Long Beach State (9-2-0, 1-0-0 Big West) to a conference-opening 2-0 victory over visiting Pacific (8-2-1, 0-1-0 Big West) on Friday afternoon. In a very physical match that saw four stoppages due to injury, Strohl's header in the 13th minute of a Kim Silos corner that was then touched by Bolt followed by Bolt's header nine minutes later in the 22nd minute gave the 49ers an easy 2-0 advantage. The Beach outshot the Tigers 10-to-4 in the first half and 15-to-8 in the contest. Jaime Souza made six saves in goal for UOP, while Liz Ramos converted on four saves, catching a shot by Kelsey Nagel in the 52nd minute and knocking loose Mandi Van Dorn's attempt in the 61st minute. Pacific had two players knocked out of the match, Alysse Valenzuela (right knee) in the 42nd minute and Catherine Betts (arm) in the 85th minute. Neither player returned. The Beach are next in action when they host CS Northridge in a match on Sunday at 2:30 p.m. at George Allen Field. |
