BOX SCORE

LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 24-ranked Long Beach State (3-0-0) scored two first half goals in a brief one-match homestand and cruised past visiting Southern Utah (0-3-0) 2-0 behind single goals from Kim Silos and Hayley Bolt.

Silos scored her first goal of the season in the 11th minute, after hitting the cross bar six minutes earlier. Fellow sophomore Sahar Haghdan set up the eventual game-winner, going one-on-one with the opponent goalkeeper, attacking Holly Davis, who knocked the ball loose. Haghdan recoved and sent it to to an awaiting Silos, 10 yards out, who fired it in at 10:07 to give LBSU a 1-0 lead.

Bolt added to the lead in the 35th minute, after Katelyn Quaresma dribbled it deep into the opponent's end, before giving it to Bolt 25 yards out. Bolt then found a hole between two defenders and scored at 34:57 to give the 49ers a 2-0 advantage.

The Thunderbirds, who had five of their six shots saved by LBSU goalkeeper Liz Ramos, nearly tied it up in the 28th minute when Brooklyn Phillips fired a point blank shot at Ramos. Ramos smothered it, as the 49ers kept in front 2-0 and outshot SUU 8-to-3 in the first haf.

The 49ers, who play at No. 5-ranked UCLA on Sunday, emptied the bench in the second half as they outshot the Thunderbirds 13-to-6 in the contest.
