49ers Start Season 2-0 For First Time In School-History
Beach Complete Perfect Start Following 1-0 Win at Portland State

PORTLAND, OR-- No. 28-ranked Long Beach State (2-0-0) used an array of speed and better fitness to start the season 2-0 for the the first time in school-history, following a perfect trip to the Pacific Northwest and a 1-0 victory over host Portland State (0-2-0) on Sunday afternoon.

The 49ers took a 1-0 lead in the 32nd minute, after Sahar Haghdan was fouled in the box. Hayley Bolt scored her first goal of the season after converting the penalty kick at 31:54.

PSU had a chance to tie it in the 59th minute following a hard tackle in the box, but the ensuing penalty kick by Juli Edwards was saved by 49er keeper Liz Ramos to keep the 49ers in front. The 49ers finished the match outshooting PSU 13-to-4, as they wore out the Vikings by the halfway point of the second half on a warm day in the Rose City.

The Beach looked for more in the 57th minute, as Kim Silos' shot was knocked out for one of goalkeeper Cris Lewis' five saves on the afternoon.

Silos tried again in the 84th minute, only to be stopped again by Lewis.

The 49ers outshot the Vikings 6-to-3 in the first half, holding PSU without a shot on a short, fast tuf field for the first 31 minutes.

The Beach had a chance to take an ealrier lead as Bolt's shot in the 19th minute was saved out and Sahar Haghdan's bullet went high of the goal in the 23rd minute.

The 49ers return home for a match on September 1 against Southern Utah at 5 p.m., before traveling to top-ranked UCLA on September 3. Season tickets continue to be on sale for just $30 for the six-game schedule.
