Richardson Wins Gold at NACAC Championships

Richardson Wins International Decathlon Title SANTO DOMINGO, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC-- Long Beach State All-American Chris Richardson (Downey, CA) won his first international competition last weekend, earning a gold medal at the NACAC Under-23 Regional Championship in the decathlon with a score of 7,243 points. The reigning Big West Field Athlete of the Year won five of the 10 events against the five-athlete field, taking home individual titles in the long and high jump, discus and javelin toss and the 110-meter hurdle. He placed ahead of U.S. teammate Brandon Hoskins of Liberty University, who scored 7,086 points. John Temidara (Santa Fe Springs), who was also competing in the championship for the U.S., finished fourth in the triple jump with a mark of 51'8.25". This was the fourth edition of the championship, featuring countries from North and Central America and the Caribbean. It took place at Olympic Stadium in Santo Domingo from July 7 to 9 and results were not made available until Wednesday. |
