Duo Headed to NCAA Finals on CBS SACRAMENTO, CA-- Seniors John Temidara (Santa Fe Springs) and Ronald Carter (Gardena) are each headed to the NCAA Finals in the triple jump after finishing in the top-12 in the prelimaries on Friday afternoon. Temidara's jump of 51'8.5" placed him fifth, while Carter's jump of 51'4.5" placed him seventh. Temidara is competing in his first NCAA triple jump after competing in four-straight NCAA Championships in the high jump (two indoor, two outdoor). Carter, meanwhile, the West Regional Champion, is competing in his second-straight outdoor triple jump after finishing 21st last year and missing the finals. Carter came into the event ranked eighth nationally, while Temidara was 12th.The duo are looking to become the 49ers first triple jump All-Americans since Gregory Magee earned the honor during the indoor seasons of 1976 and 1977. A top-eight finish amongst American males, gives them that distinction. The finals start at 12:30 p.m. Long Beach State is just one of two schools (the Miami women in the triple jump being the other) to feature teammates in the finals of the horizontal jumps (triple and long). For the first time since 1982, the NCAA meet will be televised live. CBS will air two and a half hours of live coverage on Saturday, June 10 starting at 12:30 p.m. |
