Regular Season Ends with Sweep by CS Fullerton

LONG BEACH, CA-- No. 2-ranked CS Fullerton (43-13, 18-3 Big West) finished off the regular season with a season-sweep of Long Beach State (29-27, 12-9 Big West) for the first time since 1998, winning 10-2 and 13-3.

Evan Longoria ended the regular season on a 12-game hit streak with hits in both games of the doubleheader. Danny Espinosa had a career-best four hits in the second game.

The 6257 fans for the series was the fourth-largest regular season series crowd in school history.

In the season finale CS Fullerton sent 10 men to the plate and score seven times to lead 8-0 in the fourth. The Titans added five in the fifth to lead 13-0.

Jared Hughes (8-4), in his final start, went just three and one-third innings, giving up seven runs (six earned) on eight hits.

In game one, the Titans took the series with a 10-2 win, scoring nine unanswered runs, after LBSU took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first. Fullerton pounded out 15 hits in the contest against six LBSU pitchers.

Lauren Gaginier (11-4) settled down after a tough start, retiring the final 10 batters he faced, pitching the first five, giving up two runs on four hits, to pick up the win.

Donnie Hume (3-4) was cruising through the first three and two-thirds innings, holding to a 2-1 lead, before an Evan McArthur homer tied it and two more runs cross the plate to give the Titans a 4-2 lead. Vance Worley, who came on in the fourth, then gave up three unearned runs in the fifth as Fullerton led 7-2.

Regional pairings will be announced on Monday at 9 a.m. on ESPN.
