LONG BEACH, CA-- Robert Tarr had 21 kills and Norm Hutton added 10 kills off the bench to lift No. 7-ranked Long Beach State to a 29-31, 26-30, 30-26, 30-22, 15-13 win over No. 2-ranked Brigham Young on Thursday night at the Walter Pyramid. The 49ers improved to 18-9 overall and 11-8 in the MPSF while the Cougars fell to 18-5 and 14-5 in league play. The 49ers snapped a three-match losing skid with the victory.
Senior setter Tyler Hildebrand put his name in the record books in the match becoming the 49ers career assist leader. He needed just two to pass Jason Stimpfig's mark of 6,324. Hildebrand had 52 assists and now stands at 6,375. He also added a career-high tying six kills on 10 swings and had seven digs and three block assists.

After two games the 49ers were down two games to none and were hitting just .092 (23-17-65) as a team. But the 49ers broke through two-thirds of the way through game three and then caught fire.
