49ers Finish 12th at PING/ASU Invitational Kay Hoey And Beth Holtermann Tie For 45th Place April 1, 2006
TEMPE, AZ-- The Long Beach State women's golf team, which is ranked No. 22 in the nation by both GolfWeek and Golfstat, finished in 12th place at the PING/Arizona State Invitational at the Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, AZ. The 49ers shot a 310 in Sunday third and final round to finish with a 924. No. 2-ranked UCLA won the tournament with a one-over 865 (282-289-288). No. 3-ranked Arizona State finished second with an 866 (283-298-285) and No. 17-ranked Texas A&M came in third with an 878 (294-293-291). The PING/ASU Invitational is one of the toughest tournaments in the nation as all 16 teams are ranked in the top 59 teams in the nation. There were four Top 10 teams and 10 teams ranked in the Top 25 in the nation.
Leading the way for the 49ers was sophomore All-American Kay Hoey and junior Beth Holtermann. Both tied for 45th place by shooting a 231. Hoey shot an 80 today following rounds of 76 and 75. Holtermann shot a team-best two-over 74 in Sunday's final round to finish with her 231 score (80-77-74). Josefine Lindbergh and Katy Barrett both tied for 56th place with 234's. The overall individual winner was Arizona's Adriana Zwank who shot a four-under 68 today and finished with a six-under 210 (69-73-68). Ashley Knoll (70-70-71) of Texas A&M and Jane Park of UCLA (72-74-65) both tied for second with five-under 211's.
