LONG BEACH, CA-- Long Beach State closed out its regular season with a resounding 30-22, 30-14, 30-28 win over Stanford on Saturday evening in the Walter Pyramid. The Beach, which won its fourth match in a row, improves to 21-9 overall and 14-8 in the MPSF while Stanford ends its season at 4-26 and 2-20 in league play.

Robert Tarr led the way with 15 kills while hitting .591 (15-2-22). He also added three service aces and six digs. Norm Hutton added 12 kills and a career-high four aces while Duncan Budinger had 10 kills and five digs. Setter Tyler Hildebrand finished with three kills, 42 assists and a team-high four blocks.

The 49ers hit an impressive .519 (51-10-79) in the match, their second-highest hitting percentage of the season. They also knocked out 11 service aces and out-dug the Cardinal 19-16.

Stanford hit .203 on the evening as Ben Reddy led the way with 11 kills and four service aces. Jesse Meredith had seven kills and Matt Ceran six.

The 49ers won the opening game 30-22 as they hit an impressive .704 (21-2-27) as Tarr tallied six kills and Hutton five. Game two was all Long Beach from the start as the 49ers won easily 30-14. The 49ers hit .600 (13-1-20) in the game while the Cardinal struggled to a -.087 (7-9-23) hitting percentage. Budinger had four kills in four attempts for the 49ers.

Long Beach will now wait to see where they finish in the MPSF. If Hawaii can defeat BYU this evening in Honolulu, then Long Beach will tie BYU for fourth place in the league standings. The 49ers would then earn the tie-breaker against BYU by virtue of defeating the Cougars twice last week during the regular season. Long Beach would then host BYU on Saturday, April 22 in a MPSF Tournament quarterfinal game at the Walter Pyramid.
