MALIBU, CA-- Long Beach State got 19 kills from Duncan Budinger and 12 from Robert Tarr in a 30-18, 30-23, 30-28 win at Pepperdine on Thursday night in a key MPSF match-up. The sixth-ranked 49ers improved to 14-6 overall and 9-5 in the MPSF while No. 3 Pepperdine fell to 11-4 overall and 11-4 in league action.
Long Beach hit an impressive .402 for the evening as Budinger hit .395 (19-4-38), Tarr .364 and Teddy Liles .875 (7-0-8). Pepperdine hit just .220 for the match. All-American setter Tyler Hildebrand had 42 assists and two aces and he also added six digs. Liles led the 49ers at the net with eight blocks. Long Beach out-blocked the Waves 12.5 to 7.5.
John Parfitt led the Waves with 14 kills and Paul Carroll added 11.
The 49ers will next be in action on Saturday night when they play at No. 14 USC at 7 pm. |
