49ers Cruise by USC 3-1
LOS ANGELES, CA-- Duncan Budinger had 26 kills and Robert Tarr had 21 as No. 6-ranked Long Beach State (15-6, 10-5 MPSF) cruised by host No. 14-ranked USC (10-12, 6-10 MPSF), 30-27, 30-25, 27-30 and 30-22. The 49ers have won three of four. The Beach hit .386 for the match as All-American Tyler Hildebran had 67 assists and nine digs. Budinger added a .457 clip from the court, while Tarr hit .444. Kevin Cape was the third 49er to hit double digits with 10 kills. In the first game, LBSU built a 10-6 lead that USC never could overcome. The 49ers hit .621 in that game to USC's .412. Long Beach State pulled out to a five-point lead at 18-13 in the second game and it held up as the 49ers hit at a .378 clip. The third game was tied at 22-22 before USC scored 4 of the next 5 points to gain a lead it never surrendered while hitting .438 to LBSU's .216. But the 49ers regained control of the match early in the fourth game, going up 12-5 and they were never threatened. |
