Heinz Named Big West Athlete of the Week IRVINE, CA-- Junior thrower Kim Heinz (Florence, MT) was named the Big West Conference Field Athlete of the Week following a school-record javelin toss last Saturday. The Montana junior reclaimed her school-record in the event by winning the event at the 65th Annual Jack Rose Relays with a toss of 159'9". Heinz had previously set the school-record in 2004 with a toss of 158'7" to begin the year, only to watch Samantha Young throw 158'10". The mark is already a regional qualifying mark, and if events remain similar to last year, should lead the nation for at least the first month of the season. This is the second career honor for Heinz, as she is second all-time at LBSU in weekly awards behind Doug Lefler, who won the award three times in 2004. The 49ers take their full squad to the Ben Brown Invitational on Saturday, while John Temidara heads to this third NCAA Championship this weekend as well, in the high jump. |
